Barcelona is characterised and constrained by the position of its natural limits. To its north, the sierra of Collserola and to its east, the mediterranean sea. The project called for the design of a dance centre sited in a typical courtyard surrounded by buildings on all sides. The analysis of public movement through the site revealed that the circulation within the courtyard was encouraged by the permeabile nature of the site. The circulation of routes was selected as the main theme of the design. The existing trees not only offered a sense of belonging, it also represented the historic value of the site, Therefore it was essential to preserve this and to plan the dance centre around the trees. An irregular route was devised to enrich the journey through the courtyard. The purpose of intertwining of routes is to reflect the gestural features, flexibilty and movement of a dancer.
